Access Guide
Accommodation Overview
- King William the Fourth Guest House is the only accessible wheelchair friendly serviced accommodation in Settle
- Ground Floor bedroom with Ensuite Wet Room style bathroom with additional shower seat, toilet riser and extra hand rails available on request.
- There is step-free level access to the bedroom and the dining room in the house
- This Bedroom is also Dog Friendly – extra charge applicable (max 2 dogs) however dogs are not allowed in the Dining Room (except for Assistance Dogs) Dogs must be well behaved and not left un-attended in the room when leaving the building (going for breakfast is fine!) Pet Policy Page
Parking and Public Transport
Getting In and Around
- There is step-free level access at the most accessible entrance – Access direct from the street with no ramps, through the front door we have a secondary door into entrance hall which is 68cm wide (26.8″) which is OK for a standard chair.
- There is step-free level access throughout the ground floor – which includes the dining room
- Access throughout will include manual doors
- The following facilities are available; Shower-seat, raised toilet seat, extra handrails (portable) Extra Toilet Frame. Note there is no panic alarm. Dog Friendly items – Dog Bed, Dog Bowls, Dog Towel
- The King-Sized Bed height floor to Mattress is 64cm. Should you wish to hire a Hoist at your own cost/order there is room to accommodate.
- The Breakfast Menu is large Print and can be read out aloud too by the host
- Owners/Hosts live on site in the house, fire/safety door-hanger awareness sign available in room
- Staff receive the following Training – Disability Awareness Training, Dementia Forward and Welcome for all – through their volunteer work with Age UK
Parking
- We have limited spaces within our property, normally spaces cannot be pre-booked. However, with prior arrangement we can save the space in front of the house which requires driving over the curb to the cobbled area in front of the window of this bedroom, however this space is not suitable for an SUV size vehicle. The size of multi-utility vehicles is fine. We can direct you on arrival what will be suitable, there are spaces at the rear of the property with the surface flat with small stones cover. We will do everything we can to assist with parking but have to take into consideration other guests and their parking requirements with regards to access to and from the car park at the rear. There is Greenfoot Car Park – Pay and Display only 120m away with reasonable price and free between 6pm-9am with Disabled Parking there too. Our Road outside the house had double yellow lines.

Entrance

- This is the Entrance of the Front of the House
- This is the space for Parking Suitable for vehicles no bigger than a multi-utility size
- There is a single manual door entrance with key of entry at 128cm height which is given to check-in with Host
- The Door opens away from you
- There is a secondary Door that is propped open but is the narrowest part of the entrance which is 68cm wide (26.8” which is OK for a standard wheelchair/scooter
- There is step-free level access as you enter

Location and Access
- The bedroom is located on the right-hand side of the front door as you enter
- There is a separate room key to enter the door at 120cm height and the door has a knob handle to be turned too; this should be turned in order – Host will explain on check-in – two hands are required.
- There is step-free level to the bedroom
- The door opens inwards
- The width of the door is 80cm

- The only bed is a King-Sized Double bed
- The top of the mattress is 64cm from the floor
- The space under the bed is 33cm from the floor
- The floor is wooden surface
- The bedside table/cabinet is removed which is next to the bathroom door prior to check-in to allow the manoeuvre next to the bed and into the bathroom (115cm x 115cm)
- The following is available in the bedroom – a TV (Free-View) with Subtitles, Armchair, hanging space with no doors, bedside plug sockets on both sides and a portable small table to replace the standard bedside table
- There is a mini fridge for medications / other use – fresh milk, water and own items to store
- There is no emergency Alarm

Access
- There is step-free level access into the ensuite
- The ensuite door opens outwards
- The with of the door opening to the ensuite is 90cm
Dimensions and Features
- There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (125cm x 125cm)
- There is a lateral transfer space to the right as you face the toilet
- The Lateral transfer space is 110cm (from the side of the toilet pan to the wall)
- There is a push button flush on the top of the cistern
- There is a drop down long hand rail to the right of the toilet (transfer side)
- There would be another grab handle that can be attached to the wall using suction to the walled tiles if required – Plus another next to the Wash Basin as well if needed at a different angle
- The standard toilet seat is 43cm from the floor
- The toilet seat with the riser on it would be 51cm from the floor
- There is a wall mounted toilet roll holder
- The wash basin does not have a mixer tap; however, the plug is push button
- The soap dispenser (Cole & Mason 300ml push pump) can be moved to where is suitable by the guest
- The wash basin is not on a pedestal and is free standing
- The mirror above the wash basin is at xxxxcm however a separate portable mirror is provided to place on the washbasin if required
- There is no emergency alarm
- The ensuite has a pedestal waste bin
- Other features, there is a heated towel rail which is on a timer and can also be individually controlled by the guest
- The bathroom only has a Shower
- The floor in the ensuite is wet room style made with non-slip material with good draining (including a covered drain cover)
- The shower controls are twist turn mixer
- There is a separate shower hook on the wall if require to move the shower head and hose to a different position in the shower area
- There is a shower curtain that can be pulled across with ease to stop water going over the toilet
- The shower seat that is place into the ensuite is 52cm from the floor full height (but adjustable to lower)
- Available on request on booking a Toilet Frame for extra holding onto surfaces
Dining Room

- The Dining room is also on the Ground Floor, opposite the bedroom
- There is step-free level access into the Dining Room
- The width of the door opening to the Dining Room is 76cm
- There is room for a wheelchair user to sit a one of the tables and can Manoeuvre Over 150cm x 150cm
- The wheelchair user will have to use as a chair to sit at the dining table, as the dining chairs do not have arms
- The dining tables have one central pedestal therefore it is easy access to sit at the dining table with a wheelchair
- We have a selection of Cereals, Fresh Fruit Salad, Yogurts on a sideboard for self service, however it’s not at a height for wheelchair users to access – therefore help by a partner or the host to serve up
- Menu is a on a Black Board with white writing and is moved to the table and the host can read the choices out too
- We do not provide evening meals – however we are happy for wheelchair users to use the dining room privately for a take-away (we can supply plates/cutlery etc)
- The nearest Pub serving Food is the Talbot Arms which is 30m away 0n the same side of the street. They are happy to provide a ramp to gain entrance but do not have accessible toliets on site (may need to return to the Guest house to use) this is a very friendly welcoming pub serving good food from 12-8pm.
